Listening to Conscience

March 3, 2006

9.00.p.m : dinner at mess.. me, ravi shankar [now famous for the IIFT call] and Jitendra were eating silently until I broke it with some crappy humour on campus news and then the topic turned to blogs and thats when this conscience thing came in, and I listened to mine and sat to compose another screwed up post :

Returning from Lawrence and Mayo yesterday I took a 7-seater to Gachibowli and then waited for another to get to IIIT and a rare miracle of an RTC bus arriving at need happened then. I get in, hand the conductor a Re.2/- coin and say ‘IIIT’.. he grabbed it quickly and I settled in to the seat next to his… a minute passed by, the coin is still between his fingers and his mind still wobbling unable to decide to put in to the cash bag or in to his pocket.. I knew this all familiar fight with conscience.. I saw it happening so many times on this particular route and this particular spot. Its for exactly this reason I never miss an opportunity to get on to an RTC bus at Indranagar to the insti or the other way.. I went on with these ruminations.. the [supposed] misery of RTC, responsibility of a public servant, of a citizen and lot of like crap… another half-a-minute.. we are almost there and then he tore a Re.2/- ticket and handed it to me.. It was like watching a happy ending of a movie.. some strange sense of satisfaction.. then I thought if only every conductor so far had done so.. I wouldnt mind waiting an extra 5 min and taking a bus instead of taking an auto for twice the price..!!
