The Luxury of freedom from choice

June 19, 2006

Last weekend I had an unusual visitor wanting to meet me : a +2 passout from my village. He was hardworking, had a nice AIEEE /EAMCET/BITSAT ranks.. not the best but considering the resources accessible to him  it was decent job. Now he wanted to know where to join. I was perplexed by the number of choices he had.. this guy met about half-a-dozen 'learned' people and yet could not make a choice. Four hour later I was unable to make him feel better. Engineering education has been so (particularly in AP with burgeoning number of colleges ) unlike 'medicine' where students get this freedom from choice (as opposed to freedom of choice)… I and paresh later discussed it in the evening… back in 2k1 choosing IIIT-H wasnt as easy as it is today.. but then both of us this freedom from choice in a different way.. :) .  We never had to brainstorm since this place was the only one willing to take us in.. now looking back at that I feel lucky
